Family holiday to South Africa
Experience the world in one country
Experience the world in one country
This is a holiday we recently organised for a family to see the best of South Africa in a two week holiday. This is just an example of one trip we arranged - please contact us if you would like to discuss your own wishes and ideas.
Day 1
Depart Heathrow on an overnight flight to Cape Town. During the flight of approximately 12 1/2 hours you can relax and enjoy the in flight service and entertainment.
Day 2
You'll arrive into Cape Town this morning and will be met and transferred by a private vehicle to the Lawhill Apartments offering accommodation perfect for a family stay. You will stay here for 4 nights in a 2-bedroom suite on a room only basis.
Days 3-5
You'll have plenty of time to enjoy all of Cape Town’s attractions. We suggest a trip to the top of Table Mountain (either via the scenic cable car or, if you're feeling fit, on foot) where you can take in the stunning views of the city. A visit to Robben Island is high on most visitors list, here you can view the infamous prison and step inside the cell that Nelson Mandela spent much of his life. We also suggest a stroll around the V&A Waterfront where there are many restaurants and shops to enjoy or a visit to The Cape of Good Hope.
Days 6-7
I have arranged for you to collect your 'Group V' car hire today (I'll send directions separately) and you'll set off east to Stellenbosch. You'll stay in the Winelands for 2 nights in a family room at the beautiful Spier Hotel based on a bed and breakfast basis. Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa as is considered the heart of The Winelands. A visit to a vineyard is a must where you can sample wines and local produce unique to this beautiful area. Franschhoek and Paarl are both just a 30 minute drive away.
Days 8-9
Today you will head for the coast where you will almost certainly see whales in the ocean. Spend 2 nights in a Garden family room, Grootbos on a full board basis.
Days 10-12
A drive along the Garden Route awaits as you head for Plettenberg Bay and Hog Hollow, your base for 3 nights in a family room bed and breakfast. The Garden Route name comes from the verdant and ecologically diverse vegetation encountered here and the numerous lagoons and lakes dotted along the coast.
Days 13-14
A morning departure heading east to drop your car at Port Elizabeth airport before being collected and transferred to the private game reserve of Shamwari. Here you and the family will stay for 2 nights in interconnecting rooms at Riverdene Family Lodge on a full board basis, including game drives. Shamwari is ideal for families because it is a Malaria free area offering the opportunity to see the Big 5. Shamwari also offers a unique “kids on safari” programme where children aged 4 and over have the chance of a lifetime to see the Big 5 and participate in an educational visit to the Born Free Foundation and a dedicated rehabilitation centre.
Day 15
After a morning game drive, you will be driven back to Port Elizabeth airport for your flight to Johannesburg and your onward connecting journey to London.
Day 16
You will arrive into London Heathrow this morning.
